EGABOX

Smart Multi-Loop Interface for Evolved Gas Analysis (EGA)

Detailed tracking of evolved gases during high-speed thermal reactions.

The EGABOX is a high-performance interface designed to store evolved gases from rapid reactions at high temperatures and analyze these fractions automatically via GC or GC-MS. It provides the ideal solution for Evolved Gas Analysis (EGA) as an output for Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA).

Bridge the Gap Between TGA and GC-MS Analysis Time

The EGABOX acts as the intelligent bridge, managing the transfer of evolved gases with precision and reliability.

In materials and polymer research, TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis) is the standard for monitoring mass loss. Coupling these degradation steps with a detailed gas analysis (EGA) provides vital structural information. However, a major bottleneck exists:

TGA cycles are fast (10 to 30 minutes) while GC-MS analyses are slow (20 to 60 minutes).

How to resolve this temporal mismatch?

The EGABOX interface allows you to capture and store the gases emitted by your material or process in sampling loops at user-defined intervals. Each loop is then injected sequentially into the GC or GC-MS.

Egabox

Engineered by Chemlys, the EGABOX interface enables high-resolution monitoring of reaction kinetics and accurate identification of gas species released during material degradation.

  • High-Temperature Storage: Gases are preserved in heated loops at specific timestamps to prevent condensation.
  • Sequential Automatic Injection: Seamlessly interfaces with GC, or GC-MS
  • Unrestricted Kinetics: Analyze the detailed composition of gases from fast reactions (under 10 minutes) without being limited by the GC cycle time.

Operating Principle:

The EGABOX features a heated enclosure containing a storage valve with 16 sampling loops. These loops are filled by the flow coming from the TGA or process at programmable intervals. This enables a detailed GC-MS analysis of each fraction, providing a complete kinetic map of the reaction.

To ensure maximum precision, every EGABOX is validated for loop-to-loop repeatability with RSD < 0.5% on peak areas. For reactive samples, an inert version is available to protect sample integrity.

Move beyond the limitations of conventional interfaces that demand complex PC installations and recurring licensing costs. The EGABOX is powered by a fully autonomous, embedded software system designed for immediate, hassle-free operation.

Designed to fit any laboratory layout, the EGABOX interface can be positioned on either the right or left side of your GC. It connects directly to the split/splitless injector via a precision-heated transfer line, guaranteeing a seamless sample path and eliminating cold spots to preserve sample integrity.
Quick-Disconnect System: The transfer line can be removed in less than five minutes, allowing you to switch your GC back to independent operation with minimal downtime. A second dedicated transfer line is included to ensure a robust connection between your TGA or process and the interface.

When coupled with a TGA, the EGABOX simplifies complex evolved gas analysis by synchronizing perfectly with your thermal events: Easily program sampling times to correspond precisely with specific mass-loss steps observed in your TGA profile. Then, start your TGA and EGABOX simultaneously with a single command. Finally, the embedded controller autonomously manages the entire workflow: capturing gases in the storage loops and automatically triggering sequential injections into the GC or GC-MS once the thermal run is complete.

Why Choose Chemlys?

Most vendors specialize in either Thermal Analysis or Chromatography. Chemlys masters both. We provide full application support for the entire coupling, ensuring that your transfer lines, timings, and methods are optimized for the most accurate results.

Maximum Sample Inertness: To prevent the adsorption of reactive compounds and ensure trace-level accuracy, all internal lines and valves can be SilcoNert® 2000 treated. This treatment guarantees an ultra-inert flow path for even the most challenging gases.
Advanced Safety Protocols: Your lab's safety is our priority. The EGABOX can be equipped with an integrated inert gas purge system. This feature prevents the accumulation of hazardous gases and provides a secure environment in the event of a hydrogen leak or gas buildup.
Precision Quantification: To achieve industry-leading injection repeatability, we offer an Atmospheric Pressure Adjustment module. This system ensures that a constant, reproducible volume of gas is injected every time, regardless of external pressure fluctuations.
Service-Focused Design: We understand that instrument uptime is critical. Maintenance is simplified through a front-access architecture: valves and key components are positioned directly under the hood for immediate accessibility and rapid servicing.
