Natural gas is part of our daily life, whether it's cooking, heating or even moving around.
In order to guarantee its performance, it is important to know its composition and thus deduce its calorific value (PCI and PCS). As part of the search for energy independence and to contribute to the energy transition, in recent years France has supported the installation of many for biomethane injection. In order to ensure the quality of biomethane prior to its entry into the distribution network at the "injection" station level, advanced composition and PCS control is carried out using Micro GC technology.
Injection of biomethane to Pre du Loup, GrDF scheme.
Micro GC Fusion® quickly allows the overall composition of the gas by separating each compound, while maintaining accuracy at ppm. This level of precision is particularly important to protect against harmful impurities of low content, such as sulphur compounds (e.g. H2S and COS).
This level of precision is all the more important as gases « Green » are now injected into the network. We can mention biomethane and in the near future hydrogen. Both may be from various sources.
« A sample no longer resists Micro GC Fusion »
The composition of natural gas is regulated to provide users with a certain level of performance. The composition is often associated with a lower (PCI) and higher (PCS) calorific value. These allow to judge the power of the gas to produce energy and therefore heat.
Micro GC technology is therefore preferred for monitoring the quality of natural gas through its advantages: rapid analysis, detailed composition, all in a competitive way.
Micro GC Fusion® is integrated into MGC16, a solution developed by MECI for the overall monitoring of the quality of natural gas but also biomethane and gas mixture containing hydrogen.
Being able to analyse the composition of natural gas in 3 minutes is the challenge of Micro GC Fusion®. Connected online, it makes continuous results with great precision but also great flexibility. The same device can follow very different applications.
Micro GC Fusion® incorporates major innovations such as temperature programming. The analyser becomes able to analyze even more complex samples while remaining stable longer.
It was these analytical performances that allowed its integration into the injection stations. Beyond these performances, its flexibility allows it to be ready for the challenges of hydrogen and syngas.
